According to Mr Kent, our IS teacher, Internet originated from Arpanet, networking project by Pentagon's Advanced Research Projects Agency(ARPA). Its goal is to allow scientist at different locations to share information and to function if part of network were disabled. It became functional at Sep 1969
Internet grown from 4 host nodes in 1969, more than 1000 in 1984, to more than 200 million nowadays!
Who controls the Internet? Maybe many has been asking this question. Who? No one! It's public, cooperative and independant network. But, several organizations DO set standards.
How can you connect to the Internet? Narrowband(as slow as a tortoise, but cheap)like Dial-up access and Broadband(very fast)like WI-FI.And what are the ways to access the Internet? ISP, OSP and Wireless Internet Service Provider.What is a domain name? Text version of IP address, a number that uniquely identifies each device connect to the Internet.
What is the World Wide Web (WWW)?It is a worldwide collection of electronic documents. Each electronic document is called a Web page. It is also called the Web. It can contain text, graphics, sound, video, and built-in connections. A Web site is a collection of related Web pages.Then what is Web publishing? Development and maintenance of Web pages.
What is E-mail?It is an abbrevation for electronic mail.It is the transmission of messages and files via a computer network. Messages can consist of simple text or can contain attachments, such as documents, graphics, or audio/video clips. Internet access providers usually provide an e-mail program. Some Web sites—such as MSN Hotmail and Yahoo!—provide free e-mail services. One of the original services on the Internet.
